Police: Off-Duty Officer Opens Fire On Car After Driver Tries To Run Him Over
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police say an off-duty officer opened fire on a vehicle after a driver tried to run him over during a confrontation in Center City Philadelphia.
The incident happened around 1:30 a.m. Sunday near 8th and Lombard Streets.
Police say the off-duty housing authority officer got into an argument with four men inside a white car. One of the men allegedly pulled a gun on the officer who then pulled his own gun and identified himself.
Authorities say the driver then attempted to hit the officer with the car. That's when, according to police, the officer fired several shots, striking the vehicle's windshield.
The four suspects drove away, but they were apprehended a short time later near 6th and Bainbridge Streets.
Police have not released the identities of the four men or any specific charges against them.
No one was injured in the incident.
Police continue to investigate.
