Police: Teen To Be Charged As Adult In State Trooper Shooting, One Suspect Being Sought

PHILADELPHIA (CBS/AP) -- Pennsylvania State Police say a 17-year-old who was in a car stopped for a traffic violation shot a state trooper during a Tuesday morning chase on the Vine Street Expressway that ended in a fiery crash involving a school bus.

Officials say Trooper Patrick Casey was shot in his shoulder during the incident.

The teenager is expected to be charged as an adult with Attempted Homicide and other related offenses.

Police say when the car was first stopped, they asked the four people inside to exit the vehicle, but one of the suspects jumped back in and took off.

The suspect then crashed into the school bus, causing both vehicles to burst into flames.

The bus was empty except for the driver, who escaped unharmed.

Officials say Casey was shot while he pursued the suspect.

State police say two individuals were in the car and treated for injuries, but have since been released.

Authorities say they are currently searching for one suspect who is still at large.

Trooper Casey is expected to be released from Hahnemann Hospital in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.
