Police: Man Shot Dead Inside Car Crashes On Roosevelt Boulevard

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police are investigating a deadly shooting and crash that shut down a section of Roosevelt Boulevard.

It happened around 6 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Summerdale Avenue the Boulevard in Lawncrest.

Police say a 39-year-old man was stopped at a red light when a white Cadillac pulled alongside his vehicle and someone inside fired multiple shots at him.

The man was struck several times in the head and neck. The wounded driver then drove across several lanes of the highway, swerving before crashing into a fence at Friends Hospital.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say the Cadillac fled south on the Boulevard. There were no initial arrests and investigators say the motive for the shooting is unknown.

The northbound outer lanes of the Boulevard at Adams Avenue were closed while police investigated.
