Police: Man Shoots Neighbor As Simmering Feud Turns Violent In Upper Darby

UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CBS) -- SWAT Teams surrounded an Upper Darby home after authorities say a man barricaded himself after shooting his neighbor.
The incident began around 10 p.m. Sunday night at a home along the 2200 block of Harwood Avenue, near Lansdowne Avenue.
Police say an argument between neighbors escalated and one man fired five shots, one hitting the other man in the shoulder.
"Apparently, the shooter believed that the victim had attempted to burglarize his house earlier that day," says Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood, "which is totally unfounded."
Chitwood says the shooter then barricaded himself inside his home.
"We had the entire neighborhood cordoned off for a couple of hours," he says. "We also evacuated the residences on either side of the shooter's home."
Chitwood says a SWAT team forced its way into the front and back of the residence and took the shooter into custody.
No one else was injured and no one else was inside the home at the time of the shooting.
The victim was treated at the hospital and released.
Charges are still pending against the shooter.
