Man Charged With Beating Grandma To Death With Weighted Sock

NEWTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A suburban Philadelphia man is charged in the death of his 95-year-old grandmother after police say he beat her with a weighted sock when she tried stopping him from using it to attack his father.

Jared Rose was arraigned Tuesday on homicide and attempted murder charges in the Jan. 29 incident at the family's Wrightstown home.

Lorraine Patterson suffered head trauma, facial fractures and a broken jaw. She died last week.

Rose is jailed without bail pending a March 16 hearing.

Rose's lawyer says he adored his grandmother and that mental illness had shut off the rational, loving part his brain. He's undergoing tests in a jail psychiatric unit.

Louis Busico says Rose's family still supports him.

Police say eight officers and a stun gun were needed to subdue Rose.
