Police: Man Bolts From Pa. ER In Hospital Gown, Jumps Into Lake

LANGHORNE, Pa. (AP) — Police say a man being treated at a suburban Philadelphia hospital walked out of the facility and jumped into a nearby lake.

It happened just before 3 p.m. Saturday while the man was being treated for intoxication. Bucks County Park Rangers Chief Steve Long says the 29-year-old bolted from St. Mary Medical Center's emergency room and jumped into Lake Luxembourg in his hospital gown.

Langhorne-Middletown Fire Chief Frank Farry says the Yardley resident evaded several boats. More than 40 police, firefighters and emergency medical services personnel participated in an hour-long rescue effort that ended when he was handcuffed to a rescue boat and sedated by paramedics.

He was subsequently transported back to St. Mary's.

Long says he expects to cite the man for public intoxication.
