Police: Man Arrested For Threatening Delaware Gov. Jack Markell On Facebook

MIDDLETOWN, DE (CBS) -- A Maryland man has been arrested and charged in connection to a social media post threatening Delaware Gov. Jack Markell.

Roger Matthews of Warwick, Md. is accused of threatening Gov. Markell in a Facebook post.

The investigation began on Sunday night after troopers responded to a residence on the 300 block of Pheasant Drive in Middletown. Officials say a woman told arriving officers that she, as well as Gov. Markell had been threatened in a Facebook post by a man she identified as Matthews. The female victim told police that Matthews was a relative of one of her family members.

Matthews was taken into custody on Tuesday without incident and charged with Threatening the Life of a Public Official.

He was arraigned and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in default of $4000 cash bond.

Authorities have not released specific details about the threat due to the sensitive nature of the incident.
