Police Make Arrest In Bensalem Home Invasion, Sex Assault

BENSALEM, Pa. (CBS) – Authorities in Bensalem Township have arrested a man they say sexually assaulted a woman during a home invasion this past weekend.

Bensalem Township police director Fred Harron says officers responded to the woman's call at the Lafayette Garden Apartments around 5 a.m. Saturday.

"She was in there along with her young daughter, and he began to sexually assault her. She was able to fight him off, at which time he fled the scene."

The victim woke up while the intruder was in her apartment, police say, and a struggle ensued.

Authorities say as the victim fought to get the suspect out of her apartment she was sexually assaulted.

The suspect then fled the scene on foot.

On Tuesday, police say they arrested 21-year-old Derrick Anderson for his involvement in the crime.

Anderson is apparently homeless and was located in an abandoned vehicle parked in Philadelphia.

He is being charged with burglary, indecent assault and related offenses.
