PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A man was critically injured in a hit and run Saturday night in Southwest Philadelphia, and police are looking for the driver.

It happened just before 11 p.m. at Island and Glenmore Avenues.

Police say witnesses saw a man walking north on Island Avenue in the middle of the road.

As one motorist flashed his high beams to warn the walker, he saw a dark SUV coming up behind him. It passed him, hit the pedestrian, and kept going, heading north on Island towards the Cobbs Creek Parkway.

The injured man was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he's listed in critical but stable condition.

Police say no one was able to provide more details on the SUV or its driver.
