Police: Attempted Kidnapping/Robbery In Newark Falsely Reported

NEWARK, Del. (CBS) -- Police in Newark have arrested a woman they say falsely reported an attempted kidnapping and robbery on Monday night.

According to Newark police, 23-year-old Brenda Aydin told them an armed man approached her from behind in the parking lot at the Christina Mills Apartments, then forced her into her apartment. She claimed the suspect took jewelry then ran away.

Detectives say they noticed there were inconsistencies in the series of events reported and were able to determine that the incident did not occur and was falsely reported.

Aydin was arrested Tuesday morning and has since been released on bond.

Residents in New Castle County have recently been on edge as police search for a serial kidnapper.
