Police Investigate Reported Sexual Assault, Robbery At Philadelphia Hotel

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Police Special Victims Unit is investigating a reported sexual assault and robbery at a hotel.

On July 21 at 3 a.m., police say a 25-year-old woman was sexually assaulted and robbed at gunpoint inside her hotel room. Investigators say it was reported at the Microtel Hotel along Tinicum Boulevard near Philadelphia International Airport.

Police say before leaving the room, the suspect in this case bound the victim's arms using a cord from the room's telephone. Police say she was also robbed of $500, and now detectives are looking into two other robberies on July 12 and July 18 at the hotel. They believe at least one of them may be connected to the sex assault case.

"It's nice and quiet over here. You know people come and go, people come in and out of town, stay at the hotels, it's a nice area," said a shuttle driver.

The shuttle driver for one of the nearby hotels says he's startled to hear of the recent crimes.

"Yeah, I work the 3-11 shift and it's always quiet. Even the 3-11 shift. So for something like that to happen, it's new. And surprising."

Police do have a description of the suspect and continue to investigate.
