Police: Shots Fired Inside Room At Atlantic City Casino

ATLANTIC CITY, N. J., (CBS) -- Police are investigating after several shots were fired inside a hotel room at a casino in Atlantic City.

Atlantic City Police say officers responded shortly before 7 p.m. Friday to a call from casino security about a man detained inside a 17th floor hotel room with a handgun.

According to police, the man, identified as 41-year-old Tolga Azaz, of Mt. Sinai, New York failed to check out of his room.

When casino security went to check on the room, police say a piece of furniture was blocking the door.

Security eventually entered the room and found Azaz asleep on the sofa.

As a female EMT began checking him, police say Azaz woke up and allegedly assaulted her.

Investigators say security detained Azaz and called police.

A further investigation of the room revealed spent shell casings and two loaded handguns inside the room as well as a handgun in Azaz's waistband, police said.

Police say the hotel room was damaged from gunfire inside the room that occurred before security entered.

No guests or police were injured.

Azaz was taken to AtlantiCare in Atlantic City for an evaluation. He remains under police guard.

He faces three counts of unlawful possession of a weapon and aggravated assault on an EMT.

The investigation continues into when the shots were fired inside the guest room.

No bail information was available on Friday night.
