Police Investigate Overnight Thefts From Vehicles On The Main Line

By Walt Hunter

TREDYFFRIN TOWNSHIP, Pa., (CBS) -- Tredyffrin Township police are alerting neighbors about thieves who targeted cars in three neighboring communities last Wednesday night.

Overnight October 28, police say the thieves struck on Berwyn Baptist Road in Berwyn, Summerhill Drive, Larkspur and Thistle Ways in Malvern and East Golf Club Lane in Paoli.

Items stolen from cars included a Louis Vuitton bag, Coach wallet containing credit cards, a prescription pad, handgun, swim gear, loose change and gift cards.

"It 97 and a half percent safe," neighbor Lee McConnell told CBS 3's Walt Hunter after he learned about the thefts.

"But because you have such a big concentration of house here, I suppose it's easy enough to just drive in here and cherry pick stuff."

McConnell says neighbors, in addition to working with the police, are working with each other, quickly posting new information about crimes and protective measures on their neighborhood website and Facebook page.

"Just make sure you lock things up and take proper precautions," neighbor Jim Malloy explained.

So far Tredyffrin Police say they don't have any useful descriptions or images of the thieves or the vehicle in which they most likely fled.

Investigators ask anyone with video from a home surveillance camera or information to call Tredyffrin Police at 610-644-3221.

Police also remind residents to park vehicles in lighted areas if possible, remove valuables and keep doors locked at all times.
