PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia Police say an officer and a suspect exchanged gunfire Tuesday evening in the city's Feltonville section.

The sound of gunshots could be heard from Mascher and Loudon Streets, according to police. It was around 5:30 p.m. when 25th District police officers came by and saw two men, guns in hand, running west on the 100 block of West Louden.

There, police say one of the suspects fired at the cops.

One of the officers fired back, investigators say, hitting that man in the upper torso and grazing his head.

He was taken to the hospital in stable condition. Police say the second suspect was also arrested, their guns were recovered.

Authorities say before exchanging shots with police, the suspects shot a man at Mascher and Louden. The victim was hit in the leg and hospitalized in stable condition.

There were no injuries to police or any residents. Police say the officer who fired his gun will be on administrative duty as the investigation continues.
