Teen Girl Struck By Vehicle While Crossing Street To School Bus In South Jersey

UPPER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS) — Police say a 14-year-old Upper Township girl suffered serious injuries after she was struck while crossing the street to board her school bus Tuesday morning.

Authorities say the teen was struck at the intersection of U.S. 9 and Ocean Avenue.

Police say based on the preliminary investigation, the school bus was stopped in the northbound lane with its stop sign extended and flashing lights activated.

Authorities say a  17-year-old male driving a Toyota Corolla southbound on U.S. 9 failed to stop and struck the victim, who was legally crossing the road from the direction of West Ocean Avenue.

The teen girl suffered serious injuries and was taken to Atlantic Care Regional Trauma Center.

Officials say she was later transported to Cooper Medical Trauma Center in Camden for additional treatment.

Police say the driver and his passenger were not injured.

The incident remains under investigation.

No charges have been filed at this time.
