Police: Driver Ignores School Bus Sign, Strikes Child Crossing Street

LAKEWOOD, N.J. (CBS) --- Lakewood police have charged a driver for hitting a child crossing the street. The driver reportedly disregarded a school bus stop sign, driving past the bus and striking the child.

This happened around 5:30 yesterday at the intersection of Clifton Avenue and Carey Street.

Authorities say the 8-year-old boy was pinned under the car and dragged about 80 feet before the driver stopped.

Investigators charged Michael Adler with reckless driving and illegally passing a school bus.
