Police: Driver Charged In Hit-Run Of Bicyclist Found At South Jersey Bar

BERLIN, N.J. (CBS) -- A hit-and-run driver was found at a South Jersey bar after he struck a bicyclist, police said.

The incident happened at about 5:40 p.m. Monday along New Freedom Road near School House Lane in Berlin, New Jersey.

According to investigators, the victim was riding his bike when he was struck by a car driven by 41-year-old Scott A. Conklin.

The Winslow Township Police Department said Conklin fled the scene after striking the bicyclist.

A passerby witnessed the accident saw the car flee the scene and called police.

According to investigators, Conklin's smashed vehicle was located in the parking lot of a nearby bar. Police say he was located at the bar.

Conklin has been charged with Assault by Auto, Endangering and Injured Victim and Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident with Serious Bodily Injury. He was sent to the Camden County Jail on $50,000 full cash bail.

The bicyclist suffered serious bodily injury and was flown to Cooper University Hospital in Camden.
