Police Surround Home Where Ambush Suspect Is Believed To Be Hiding

By Steve Patterson

SWIFTWATER, Pa. (CBS) --- Shots were fired Friday night during the search for the suspected killer of a Pennsylvania State Trooper, and police have surrounded a home where they believe the suspect, Eric Matthew Frein, 31, is hiding.

It's not known right now whether anyone was hurt during in the gunfire.

State Police are making their rounds, telling residents in Monroe County to stay inside their homes and to stay away from windows.

There are hundreds of law enforcement officials in Swiftwater, Pennsylvania, about 30 or 40 minutes from where the shooting of Corporal Brian Dickson took place.

Frein has been named the chief suspect in the shooting, and since then the FBI has placed him on the ten most wanted fugitives list.

Law enforcement officials say he has an extensive background in weapons and survival tactics, and is considered extremely dangerous.

Police believe they have Frein cornered in what they are calling a stand-off situation.
