Child Found Safe After Aunt Thought Car Was Stolen In Southwest Philadelphia, Police Say

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia police say a 6-year-old girl that was in was thought to be abducted in a stolen car has been found safe on Saturday. Officials say the situation was a misunderstanding and the 6-year-old girl was never in in the car or in danger.

The incident unfolded when a navy blue Chevrolet Impala was reported stolen from 56th and Warrington Streets early Saturday afternoon.

A family member thought her niece was in the car during what she thought was an auto theft.

"We did find the car, the car was empty, however speaking with her further there were inconsistencies with her story... we are now questioning the aunt, we beleieve there may be some issues with the aunt and her state of mind," said Chief Inspector Carl Holmes.

Police are still investigating the incident and are trying to determine if the car was actually stolen.
