Police: Burlington County Area Pet Sitter Stole Jewelry From Multiple Homes

BORDENTOWN, NJ (CBS) – Officials in Burlington County say a former pet-sitter might be responsible for multiple jewelry thefts in the area.

Forty-two-year-old Melissa Hirschmann, of Medford Township, was arrested for the alleged theft of over $2,000 worth of jewelry from a Hainesport Township home.

Over the last month, Red Lion Station troopers have been investigating the theft of about $11,000 worth of jewelry from a Shamong Township home.

An investigation revealed Hirschmann is connected with various thefts over the last few years in the Burlington County area. During at least one of the thefts, police say Hirschmann was employed by the victim as a pet sitter.

Police also say Hirschmann stole the jewelry and sold it to various pawn shops.

Anyone who used Hirschmann as a pet sitter over the past several years is asked to contact police.
