Police: Man Faces Intruders Inside Burlington County Home

MOORESTOWN, N.J., (CBS) -- Frightening moments inside a South Jersey home Tuesday night – as a man arrives home and comes face to face with intruders inside his house.

It happened shortly before 6 p.m. in the 100 block of West Maple Avenue in Moorestown.

Police say the burglars had forced their way in and gone through the house when the homeowner interrupted them in action.

Lt. Lee Lieber with the Moorestown Police Department said, "As he approached the front of the house, he saw the front door had been kicked in, he was then approached by the male suspect who took a swing at him. But he wasn't injured. The gentleman called for his female partner and they then fled the scene."

We're told they fled the scene in a blue-colored 2002 GMC Sierra Pickup truck with NJ plates: MYL-85V.

Police say they have the tag information thanks to the homeowner, who managed to take a picture of the tag before the duo drove away.

Lieber said, "Which he should really be congratulated for that, it's probably the first time I heard that happen. It's obviously very good to assist us with the investigation."

So far, the investigation has revealed that the truck was reported stolen Tuesday morning from Monroe Township, NJ.

From the Moorestown home, police say the thieves got away with jewelry and cash. The suspects are described as a white male and white female possibly in their mid to late 30s. The male appeared to be about 6' tall with a medium build, scruffy beard and short brush cut hair. No description of the female was immediately available.
