Police: Autistic Boy Hospitalized After Leaving Home

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- An autistic boy who was found in the Mantua section of Philadelphia left his residence without permission, police say.

Police say the 16-year-old boy was found outside in the freezing cold in the 800 block of North 42nd Street on Sunday morning.

The boy had plastic bags on his ankles, but they were not a physical restraint, police say.

Police say the boy waited to be out of the sight of his sister and exited the home. He was outside for around five minutes and located a short distance away in the 4100 block of Ogden Street.

He was transported to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia where he is in stable condition.

Residents of the neighborhood told investigators they had previous knowledge of the boy's special needs.
