Police: Alleged Suspect Shot During Robbery Attempt At East Mount Airy Rite Aid

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia Police say a store security guard shot and wounded a man who tried to rob an East Mt. Airy Rite Aid at knifepoint Thursday night.

It's the third time this month this particular Rite Aid at Stenton and East Mt. Airy Avenues was the target of a knife-wielding robber.

This time, police say, a store security guard intervened, shooting the suspect just before 8:30 p.m.

Police say a 33-year-old man with a knife tried to rob the store, when he was shot by the guard. That man was taken to Einstein Medical Center in critical condition.

No one else was injured. Police say a weapon was recovered at the scene.

In the two previous robberies , police say the same man got away with $583 and $386, respectively.
