Police: 61-Year-Old Monk Assaulted After Chasing Robbery Suspect
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police have released surveillance video of a Buddhist monk as he was attacked and robbed inside a Sunoco in South Philadelphia on Sunday, January 3.
Authorities say the 61-year-old victim was buying lotto tickets at the gas station, located at 801 South Broad Street, when a black male snuck up from behind and grabbed about $350 from him.
The surveillance footage shows the victim run after the robber before the two get into a struggle outside.
The suspect was able to push his victim to the ground before taking off in a dark silver car.
The victim was cut on his leg during the scuffle.
Police say the suspect's car is a dark silver, newer-model Ford Mustang with a PA tag of JHY-3783.
Detectives say anyone who sees the suspect should call 911 immediately and avoid approaching him.
