Police: 20 Students Hospitalized After Lab Accident At South Jersey High School

WOOLWICH TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS) -- Nearly two dozen students were taken to the hospital after a chemical lab experiment went awry at a high school in South Jersey Monday morning.

The incident happened at about 7:40 a.m. at Kingsway Regional High School in Swedesboro, New Jersey.

According to investigators, there was a mishap in the school's chemistry lab, which sent fumes throughout portions of the school.

As a precaution, approximately 20 students were taken to Crozer-Chester Medical Center for treatment. None of the injuries are considered serious.

The high school was evacuated for nearly an hour as crews worked to ventilate the building. The school has since reopened.

It was not immediately known what chemicals were involved in the fume release.

The incident remains under investigation.
