Police: 2 DYFS Employees Assaulted While Visiting Salem County Family

PENNSVILLE, NJ (CBS) – Two Department of Children and Families employees were reportedly assaulted while visiting a family in Salem County.

On Tuesday, July 14th around 1:20 p.m., police were dispatched to the Penn Terrace Apartments on Meadow Road for an assault complaint.

Upon arrival, investigators found that two Department of Children and Families (DCF) employees had been assaulted and were in need of medical attention.

An investigation revealed that the employees were visiting a family and checking on the children when they were reportedly assaulted by a man later identified as 41-year-old Alexis A. Plater of Woodstown.

Plater allegedly pushed the female employee to the ground and proceeded to punch her. The male employee was struck in the head with a flashlight.

Both victims were taken to Salem County Hospital.

Plater reportedly resisted arrest and was eventually subdued and transported to police headquarters for processing. He is charged with Two Counts of Aggravated Assault on DCF Employees, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes, and resisting Arrest and committed to Salem County Correctional Facility in default of $25,000 cash bail.
