PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Police are investigating a deadly shooting that killed an 17-year-old boy in the Cobbs Creek section of the city.

Police say the 17-year-old was shot one time in the back. They rushed him to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Officials say three parked cars, and a home were struck by bullets.

Police say in one home a man and his young son were almost hit.

"They were actually sitting in the living room, sitting on the couch, watching TV," said Chief Inspector Scott Small. "They heard the gun shots, the window break, and they could hear the bullet pass over their head."

Police recovered three guns in some bushes on the block, but so far no arrests have been made.

Neighbors, who didn't want to appear on camera, tell us the barrage of bullets sounded like an explosion.

"Based on the ballistic evidence we know at least 25 shots were fired from two separate caliber semi-automatic weapons," said Small.

Theresa Nesbitt was walking by the crime scene Sunday evening and became upset thinking about the unidentified victim. Two years ago she lost her grandson to gun violence just a few blocks away.

"He was shot twice in his chest for no apparent reason and to walk past here and see that another little 18-year-old was murdered it just breaks my heart," said Nesbitt. "It truly breaks my heat that this is going on in our city."

To the victim's family she offered this encouragement.

"All I can say to you is try to stay strong because you're never going to stop hurting," said Nesbitt. "I just pray that they catch the person that did it and God Bless your family."

Police say detectives did find a few private security cameras in the area and they are in the process of looking for video of the suspects.
