Police: 14-Year-Old Fighting For His Life After West Philadelphia Shooting

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police are investigation a shooting that took place in West Philadelphia on Tuesday night.

The incident left a teenager in extremely critical condition.

Police say the shooting occurred around 9:25 p.m. on 60th Street.

Officials say a 14-year-old boy was shot one time in the back and was taken to Presbyterian Hospital.

Investigators were looking at two scenes in West Philadelphia; one on Simpson Street, where shots were fired, and 60th and Vine.

"Based on ballistic evidence, we know at least eight shots were fired from a semi-automatic weapon. We found eight spent shell casings on the highway in the 200 block of North Simpson Street," says Chief Inspector Scott Small.

"We do not have a motive or description of shooter. We're not even certain if the victim was the intended target or if he was hit by a stray bullet."
