Police: Ice Cream Man Stabbed In The Chest At La Salle University

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police are investigating a stabbing at La Salle University that occurred Monday afternoon just before 2 p.m.

Authorities say a Jack & Jill ice cream vendor was stabbed once his left upper chest area by an unknown suspect in a restroom on campus.

Chopper 3 was over the scene of the incident on the 1900 block of West Olney Avenue.

Authorities say a text alert went out around 2 p.m. alerting the students to shelter-in-place.  The order lasted about 45 minutes.

Mark Metzier, a freshman, says, "I saw the guy being taken out on the stretcher. It didn't look bad." He adds, "La Salle let us know really fast what was going on."

Police say the victim was taken to Einstein Medical Center and he is in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.

Officials describe the suspect as a white male, in his twenties, medium build, wearing a red jacket and a blue La Salle hoodie.

Officials say surveillance video is now being reviewed by Philadelphia police.
