Play Gives Young People Greater Appreciation Of Right To Vote
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- During the DNC, the Committee of Seventy commissioned a short play at the Science Leadership Academy designed to encourage young people to get out and vote.
The play, called 'Voices of Voting,' was designed to entertain, educate and motivate young people.
"What we wanted to do with this play is entwine two things," said playwright and director David Bradley, "the story of the activism around the voting rights act, signed by President Johnson in 1965, with the need for youth voter engagement now."
Bradley says about 1,000 people have seen the show, including teachers and parents,
"And the young people now are saying, 'now I see how one person can make a difference.' This play has shown me that I'll never take my right to vote for granted,'" Bradley said.
