Planned Parenthood Ends Reimbursement For Fetal Tissue Donations

By Lynne Adkins

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Planned Parenthood officials announced that the organization will no longer accept financial reimbursement for fetal tissue donation. When it came to light this summer that money was changing hands, it sparked an instant controversy.

Dayle Steinberg, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Southeastern Pennsylvania agrees with the change but adds none of the offices in Pennsylvania take part in fetal tissue donation. She doesn't expect the change to have much impact here, as the controversy hasn't impacted the number of people seeking services.

"No we're not seeing that at all, I mean we have patients asking about it, but it hasn't affected the number of community members that we serve."

Planned Parenthood officials say the organization will continue offering fetal tissue for researcher, but the group will now cover the costs.
