Pilot Killed After Small Plane Crashes On Hilltop Near Delaware River

HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) -- Authorities believe the pilot of a single-engine plane was trying to reach an airport in dense fog and rain when the aircraft crashed on a wooded hilltop near the Delaware River in New Jersey.

The pilot, 71-year-old Joseph Borin of Readington Township, died in the crash. He was the only person on board.

Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony Kearns III says people reported hearing what sounded like a plane crash around 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Authorities scoured the New Jersey and Pennsylvania sides of the river before a search team reached the debris in a remote and rugged part of Holland Township five hours later.

Authorities believe the pilot was trying to reach Alexandria Airport.

It's not known what caused the crash.
