Pilot Escapes Injury When Ultralight Plane Crashes Into South Jersey Bay

BEACH HAVEN, N.J. (AP) — A pilot escaped injury when the ultralight aircraft he was flying crashed in southern New Jersey.

Authorities say the pilot was attempting to take-off when his Seawing amphibian aircraft went down around 3:40 p.m. Saturday in a bay near Beach Haven. The pilot was the only person aboard the plane, and his name was not released.

Emergency crews were able to pull the craft from a marsh later Saturday. But it wasn't clear how much damage the aircraft had sustained in the crash.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation on Sunday by the Federal Aviation Administration.
