Pick-Up Truck Catches Fire, Comes To Stop Next To Apartment Complex

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The driver of a pick-up truck was forced to abandon his vehicle after it caught fire while on City Avenue Wednesday morning.

The truck then rolled back down a hill and came to a stop right next to an apartment complex.

The incident happened shortly after 9 a.m. City Avenue near Bala Avenue.

According to investigators, the driver was in the car when it somehow caught fire. The driver then jumped out of the car, but was not able to place the truck in park.

The truck then rolled backwards, jumped a sidewalk and came to a rest right next to the Bala Apartments.

Firefighters arrived quickly to the scene and extinguished the fire before it caused any significant damage.

The driver was able to escape the truck without serious injury.

As a result of the crash, City Avenue was temporarily closed to traffic, but has since reopened.

The crash remains under investigation.
