PHS Launches Gardening And Greening Contest

By Phran Novelli

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - That is such a great garden! it could win a contest!

Well, not mine, but maybe yours! Or your neighbor's? Or that garden at the school or library? Or how about those pretty beds that a business near you took the time to plant and tend?

The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society has been honoring local beautification efforts for decades, and they've just launched a new PHS Gardening and Greening Contest to celebrate all kinds of planting excellence. You have until June 30th to enter a garden.

Categories include Flower, Vegetable or Children's gardens of all sizes. Then there are Garden Block or Main Street Planters, (those are blocks full of window boxes and/or bountiful street planters); as well as Urban Farms (where part of the produce goes to a food cupboard); Rooftop Gardens, Container Gardens, and Public Space Plantings (from train stations to traffic islands); and even Environmental Initiatives to replace tree cover or help manage storm water.

Got all that? You can link to all the specifics and an entry form at PHS Gardening and Greening Contest.
