Photos For Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition Taken On NJ Beaches

CAPE MAY, NJ (CBS) – When you think of swimsuit models, you tend to think of Rio, Miami Beach or a remote tropical island.

You don't usually think of the Jersey Shore.

But on Wednesday, the Cape May Chamber of Commerce confirmed the rumors are true: The beaches of the county served as the backdrop for the latest issue of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. And the 2014 installment is not only this year's; it's also the 50th anniversary issue of the publication.

According to Cape May officials, "negotiations for this project began last July with the models and production team arriving in Cape May after Labor Day."

The models then posed for the racy mag on the beaches of both Cape May and Cape May Point, as well as in nearby Wildwood, where they were situated in an antique car next to the iconic beach ball sign.

Last week, the Sports Illustrated website released an interview with the "Jersey Strong" segment model, Hannah Davis. In that interview, Sports Illustrated says photos for the 2014 issue were also taken in New Jersey's Seaside Heights and Island Beach State Park.

The Cape May Chamber of Commerce says the Jersey Shore was selected as a shooting location in part because of the recovery efforts following Superstorm Sandy.
