PHL Airport Unveils New Breastfeeding Area: Clean, Private, and Equipped

By Kim Glovas

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Just in time for Mother's Day, the Philadelphia International Airport has unveiled a new mother's nursing station.

The station is located in the corridor connecting terminals A and B, beyond the security checkpoints.

"The best thing about it, it's bringing breastfeeding into the public and into our culture in a way that it really needs to," says Lisa Broderick-Cohen, a lactation consultant and designated leader in La Leche League, a breastfeeding advocacy organization.  "Women need to be supported in breastfeeding."

Broderick-Cohen says that in the past, if a nursing mother was looking for privacy to breastfeed, she was told to go into the restroom.  She says the new nursing station is clean, includes a daybed, outlets for laptops and cell phones, and is reasonably priced. The first half hour is free, each half hour after that is $14.
