Philly Unveils Patriotic-Themed Scrims At Center City Construction Sites

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell joined the Democratic National Convention host committee and Philadelphia city officials to unveil presidential scrims that are now wrapped around various construction sites in the city.

The scrims, which are basically banners tied to the outside of construction fences, feature quotes from Presidents past meant to inspire and educate, but also to help beautify parts of the city where construction projects are underway.

"I think people will enjoy them. I think people will look to read them, and they're a way to protect us from unsightly areas, but also showing that we're a moving, growing, forward moving city."

Former Governor Rendell says the quotes chosen are significant to the current election, and highlight famous speeches in American presidential history.

"We didn't have enough space to do all the presidents, but we tried to do a balance between Republican presidents and Democratic presidents," he said.

Among the presidents represented are Thomas Jefferson, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, Teddy Roosevelt and Dwight Eisenhower.

The city says they will remain up through the DNC, and possibly even after it ends.
