Philly Soccer Show: Defender Richie Marquez Talks Coming From Division III To The Pros

By Greg Orlandini

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- One of the bright spots of a tough Philadelphia Union season is the play of young defender Richie Marquez, and the KYW Philly Soccer Show talks with him this week.

KYW's Greg Orlandini and Philly Soccer Page writer Eli Pearlman-Storch talk with the second-year pro about his emergence on the Union.

Marquez spent most of last year developing his game with the Harrisburg City Islanders.  He talks about what it's like coming from the Division III University of Redlands in California and making it all the way to the pros.

Then Greg and Eli discuss the possibility of the Union owning a USL affiliate.  It is a trend that is growing in Major League Soccer, with Portland, the Red Bulls and the Sounders all having their own minor league teams.
