Philly Singer Named 'Ambassador' For National Parks Conservation

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A Philadelphia-based country singer has been named an "ambassador" of the National Parks Conservation Association.

Today, in celebration of that position, she sang her new song, "Colors of the USA," on Independence Mall.

"They had chosen me to collaborate with them on a new anthem that would be used to honor the national parks," singer Doreen Taylor said afterward, "and especially with the centennial coming up in 2016, this was a huge way to get people inspired."

She says the goal is to get people to come out and enjoy the nation's parks.

"Get off your iPhone!" Taylor advises.  "When I was a kid, my parents packed us all into a car, drove us cross-country, and we saw every single national park that we could."
