Suspect Is Taken Into Custody Following Deadly Broad Street Hit-Run

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia police say the victim of a deadly Saturday morning hit-and-run has died, and a suspect has been taken into custody.

Authorities say around 1 a.m. a 49-year-old man was struck at the intersection of Broad Street and Glenwood Avenue in North Philadelphia.

The then driver fled the scene.

The victim was rushed to Temple Hospital in critical condition with a head injury, and would later succumb to his injuries and be pronounced dead shortly before 7 a.m. Saturday.

The victim's identity has not been yet been released pending family notifications.

Police say a suspect has been taken into custody.

The drivers vehicle was initially described as a dark sedan, possible burgundy in color.

Police say an update will be provided once the defendant is formally charged.

 

Around the same time Saturday morning, police say another man, 31, was crossing the intersection of H and Tioga Streets in the city's Kensington neighborhood when he was struck by car.

Police say the driver in that crash was in a black vehicle and also fled the scene.

The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition with injuries to his head and chest.
