Philly Police Officer Wounded In Shooting To Be Released From Hospital Soon
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross says Sergeant Sylvia Young, who was ambushed and shot in the arm and vest in West Philadelphia Friday night, will be released from the hospital today or tomorrow.
"She's coming along thankfully. Very blessed, as you know, to go through that type of ordeal and to survive it is absolutely amazing and we're very thankful for that."
The suspect, Nicholas Glenn, was shot and killed by police. Ross says more investigative work is needed but they still believe he acted alone.
I'm sure they'll cull through his computers and see if there's anything on that, but there's nothing right now to suggest his ties to anyone else or anything else at this point at time. Right now, we're exactly where we were over the weekend."
University of Pennsylvania Police Officer Edward Miller, who was shot in the hip and leg, has been released from the hospital, and is recovering at home.
Police say Glenn was carrying a letter expressing hatred for police and parole officers.
The shooting left Sergeant Young, Officer Miller and three civilians wounded.
One woman was killed.
Ross says, with safety in mind, officers will continue to patrol in pairs until further notice.
