Philly Non-Profit To Set An Educational World Record

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A Philadelphia nonprofit that teaches kids to think and write with clarity aims to set a new Guinness World Record later this month in an iconic Philly setting.
Mighty Writers Executive Director Tim Whitaker says the event is open to kids between the ages of 7 and 17.
"We want to break the world record for the most kids writing in the same place, at the same time. July 26th, 10 o'clock in the morning, on the steps of the Art Museum," he said.
It's timed to coincide with the Democratic National Convention.
"The topic is: If I were President," Whitaker explained.
Whitaker says it's about much more than breaking a record.
"We want to shine a light on the literary crisis, not just in Philadelphia, but nationally, as well," he said.
And to celebrate a natural resource.
"For people to see that Philly kids are really good kids, that they write with style, that they're funny, they're street smart -- they're just a pleasure to be around," Whitaker said.
