Philly Families Spend Labor Day Stocking Up

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A few Philadelphia families spent Labor Day grabbing some last-minute school supplies.
"I've basically been shopping for about a month now," said Lamel, who brought his four children to the Target in South Philadelphia.
As for what's on the list? "School books, maybe a couple pair of pants, ink pens, glue sticks, the normal stuff."
First-grader Nia and her dad Lee didn't mind shopping on Labor Day.
"It was fun," said Lee, who had just a few items to check off. "Uniform shirts, uniform leggings, and looking for a Doc McStuffin's (Disney) thermos. We didn't find that yet, so we are going to continue our search."
Across the parking lot, Jess loaded the car with a cart-full of supplies for her daughter, Kiera.
"We had to get pencils, folders, notebooks, everything was pink! A brand new book bag," said Jess.
"Do you want to see my new book bag?" said Kiera, pulling out a pink, sparkled book bag. "It has R2-D2!"
The pair also stocked up on some goods for their teachers and fellow classmates, who may not be able to buy what is needed through the year.
"If parents can contribute a little, then it adds up to be alot."
