Philly Falls To Pittsburgh In Best Beer City Ranking
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It seems Philadelphians have something else to compete with Pittsburgh for besides football -- who has the better beer city.
Right now Pittsburgh is winning.
Marketing company Infogroup ranked cities across the country based on which had the most beer and wine businesses and the concentration of those businesses per 10,000 residents.
The study authors found Philly has more beer retailers and breweries in total but Pittsburgh's smaller metro population seemed to have helped them score the #10 spot since they have a higher concentration of the businesses. Philadelphia is slightly further down the list at #16.
Neither city made the top 10 wine list.
In comparing the two lists, Infogroup found that the top beer cities had a higher percentage of homeowners and a slightly higher percentage of married households and families with children or pets. Residents of the "beer cities" were also more likely to prefer country music concerts as their choice of entertainment.
Cities that preferred wine showed a higher average income and home value, as well as a slightly higher percentage of college grads. Residents of "wine cities" also showed a greater interest in traveling, joining gyms and doing yoga and Pilates.
As far as competitions go it would be no surprise if Philadelphians see a few more breweries sprouting up in the area before Infogroup's 2017 report is released.
