Philly Burger Competition Reaches More Than Just Stomachs

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Fifty restaurants competed in the 4th annual Philadelphia Burger Brawl Sunday for a chance to call their patty "the best in the city."

With dozens of different kinds of burgers on the grill, the event had something for just about everyone.

"It is a beef patty with bacon jam, pepperjack cheese, pulled pork, coleslaw and fried onion frizzles topped with bbq sauce."

But this brawl is about more than burgers.

"This is about helping our community and that's the Philadelphia public elementary schools," says Rob Wasserman.

Wasserman founded the event, and he says they plan on making their biggest donation to the school district:

"We are surpassing $140,000 this year."

The Brawl welcomed more than 2,600 attendees who paid for the chance to taste all those burgers.

The winner of the People's Choice burger was Blue Duck Tavern and the Judge's Choice award winner was Avance  restaurant.
