Phillies Welcome Giants To CBP Tonight

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Phillies are back home tonight. They will open a three-game series with the National League West leading San Francisco Giants at Citizens Bank Park.

The Phillies just completed a ten-game road trip through Pittsburgh, Miami and Atlanta. They went 4-6 on the trip, losing two out of three to the Pirates and Marlins before splitting four games with the Braves.

Zach Eflin will get the start on the mound tonight for the Phillies. The rookie right-hander is 3-4 with a 4.23 ERA. He struggled in his last start against the Marlins, allowing seven runs in five-plus innings of an 11-1 loss. Eflin has made one start against the Giants this year. Back on June 24th, he allowed one unearned run in six innings, getting a no-decision in a 5-4 loss for the Phillies.

The Giants will counter on the mound with left-hander Madison Bumgarner. He is 10-6 this season with a 2.09 ERA. The Phillies actually beat Bumgarner in that series in San Francisco, scoring three runs off him in 6 1/3 innings of work in a 3-2 Phils win. In eight career regular season starts against the Phillies, Bumgarner is 4-3 with a 3.27 ERA.

The Phillies are 48-59 on the season. The Giants are 61-44 and they lead the NL West by two games over the Dodgers.

KYW's Matt Leon spoke with Matt Breen of the Philadelphia Inquirer about the lack of moves for the Phils at the trade deadline, the just completed road trip and Eflin.
