Phillies Turn To Kendrick In Series Opener With Reds
By Matt Leon
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Phillies will look to snap a three-game losing streak tonight as they welcome the Cincinnati Reds to Citizens Bank Park for the opener of a three-game series.
Kyle Kendrick will get the ball for the Phillies. The right-hander hasn't won a game since August 6th of last season, although he has pitched pretty solid baseball here in 2014. In 7 starts, Kendrick is 0-3 with a 3.98 ERA.
In his career against the Reds, Kendrick is 3-3 in 9 starts with a 4.41 ERA.
His mound opponent will be RHP Alfredo Simon who was actually originally signed by the Phillies back in 1999. They traded him to San Francisco in 2004 along with OF Ricky Ledee for RHP Felix Rodriguez. Simon has thrown the ball well for Cincinnati this season, 4-2 with a 2.89 ERA. He did get hit around in his last start, however, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits in just 3 innings of work in a loss to Colorado.
Reds 1B Joey Votto didn't make the trip to Philadelphia with the team and could be headed to the DL. He has been dealing with a knee issue.
The Phillies line-up is posted and it looks like this:
1. Jimmy Rollins SS
2. Carlos Ruiz C
3. Chase Utley 2B
4. Ryan Howard 1B
5. Marlon Byrd RF
6. Domonic Brown LF
7. John Mayberry CF
8. Cody Asche 3B
9. Kyle Kendrick P
