Philadelphia Phillies' Trea Turner leaves game against Marlins with right hamstring strain
Philadelphia Phillies star shortstop Trea Turner left the team's game against the Miami Marlins in the seventh inning Sunday because of a right hamstring strain.
Turner hit a solo homer in the sixth to narrow Philadelphia's deficit to 4-2. When his turn came again in the seventh, Turner legged out a grounder and reached on a throwing error by Miami Otto López. Edmundo Sosa replaced Turner as a base runner and at shortstop after he left the game.
The Phillies ended up losing against the Marlins, 5-4, which snapped the team's three-game winning streak.
Turner, 32, leads the National League in batting average at .305 and also has a league-leading 179 hits this season. It's not the first time he's sustained a hamstring injury, either. Last season, Turner missed six weeks with a hamstring strain.
The hamstring strain for Turner comes ahead of a four-game series against the New York Mets that begins Monday at Citizens Bank Park.
Heading into the series, the Phillies have a seven-game lead over the Mets in the NL East. When the two teams faced each other last month, the Phillies were swept at Citi Field.
The Phillies have dealt with numerous injuries in the 2025 season to key players. Ace Zack Wheeler is out for the season after he had a blood clot removed near his shoulder. He's set to undergo another surgery after he was diagnosed with venous thoracic outlet syndrome.
Phillies star Bryce Harper also missed time earlier in the season with a wrist injury.
