Phillies Sign Left-Hander Elvis Araujo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Phillies announced on Thursday afternoon that they have agreed to terms on a major league contract with left-handed pitcher Elvis Araujo. Assistant GM Scott Proefrock announced the signing.

Araujo, 23, split his season between double-A Akron and single-A Carolina. He was 2-1 with 11 saves and a 3.42 ERA over 43 games.

The young lefty was able to rack up 50 strikeouts over 50 innings pitched. Araujo also boasted a 15 inning scoreless streaked over the span of 13 games.

Araujo is 6'6 and was originally signed in 2007 by the Cleveland Indians as an amateur free agent. He is a native of Venezuela.
